What is Connection Comics?
Connection Comics is a set of eight booklets made up of short stories introducing important ideas about the dynamics of human relationships. Published by Graphic Attachment, the comics are presented as a boxed set, beautifully illustrated throughout with accessible text and questions to support reflection.
Each comic provides starting points, opening ways to:
Communicate more about ourselves and our relationships.
Understand more about both our vulnerabilities and strengths.
Develop and make helpful changes in our lives and relationships.
The story of the comics.
Throughout my career, I have always been interested in working in innovative and accessible ways.
In 2019, I began drawing comics as part of my art therapy practice. I discovered it was a good way to introduce and share psychological ideas and health information with people in the specialist NHS service where I worked.
In time, those comics developed into the Connection Comics. They are based on the Theory of Attachment Based Exploratory Interest Sharing (TABEIS) developed by Dorothy Heard and Brian Lake and the work of Una McCluskey on the Dynamics of Adult Attachment.
The comics are suitable for use as part of psychological education or therapy sessions or for independent exploration and learning for adults and young people. They cover themes with wide relevance to understanding ourselves and our relationships better.
